Throughout a prog and psychedelic music fan’s voyage along kaleidoscopic dreamscapes, it is always a delight to hear something fresh and engaging while maintaining masterful artistry. GU-RU, a prog-psych band based in the UK brings exactly that to the table with “Kingdom Within”.

Their third single, the song is a crunchy and energetic tune filled with exquisite flute sounds and exceptional keyboard playing. The track is also accompanied with desirable drumming and vocals which encapsulates all of the best that comes with the genres they perform.

What is also impressive is the fact that GU-RU’s recording process included both analog and digital aspects, which gives “Kingdom Within” a sound that is from the best of both worlds. Additionally, the lyrics in the song have a delightfully hallucinatory vibe to them, and are just one of the multitude of reasons why this audio treasure should be explored by lovers of either psychedelic or prog sounds.

GU-RU are formed of Lee Spreadbury on Moog, Rhodes, Hammond and Vocals; Naomi Perera on Flutes and Vocals; Malcolm D’Sa on Drums and John Kenna on Bass. They have supported the likes Gogol Bordello, Manic Street Preachers, The Blockheads and have collaborated with members of Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull, and The Crazy World of Arthur Brown.

Due for release on the 27th of December, “Kingdom Within’ will be included on the band’s debut album, ‘Tales from the Ashram’ which will be released in the spring of 2019. After one listen to “Kingdom Within”, I’m sure listeners will be exceedingly curious to listen to the much anticipated album.

To celebrate the release, GU-RU will be playing a special launch party at The Donkey, Leicester on 28.12.18.
