MOOF Magazine are delighted to premiere the brand new music video for “Walk” by Essential Forever, the creative project of Chicago’s Al Heaney, who began the project after crate-digging through bargain bins at record stores and finding essential compilations from artists he wasn’t familiar with. He was then inspired to create a character for his ’60s-esque orchestrations: a prolific crooner of a previous era whose music no one has heard of.
As a member and collaborator of the lively pop-rock band Jungle Green, Heaney further explores the sepia-tinted radio pop he’d grown obsessed with. This time around he leans more on Phil Spector’s wall of sound and Brian Wilson’s tradition of layering melodies.
On the track, Heaney explains;
“A collaboration between Peru-based filmmaker/animator Joshua Gleiser and me, we made ‘Walk’ to honor archived treasures like 70s basic cable TV performances by Serge Gainsbourg or Paul McCartney‘s Wings. We casted Essential Forever as the lead in a romantic comedy set inside an interdimensional American fever dream, which, in real life, consisted of me zooming back and forth in front of a green screen.”
